Carlisle & Eden Public Services Alliance are holding a march and rally in Carlisle on Saturday 22nd January 2011. This is the latest in their ongoing campaign events to engage with the local community over the coalition Government's draconian program of cuts to out public services.

Carlisle Greens joined trade unions and other members of Carlisle & Penrith Public Services Alliance at a rally held on Wednesday 29th September in Carlisle city centre against the proposed cuts to our public services.

16th September 2010 - Stanwix Urban by-Election

• Hazel Jane Bowmaker polled 96 votes for the Green Party (6% of the toal vote)

Carlisle Greens are very proud of the campaign we ran in Stanwix Urban; we very explicitly stood up for public services and were the only party to stand up for the public sector and ordinary working people.

Following the resignation of Conservative councillor John Stevenson, a by-election is to be held in the ward of Stanwix Urban on Thursday, 16th September.

The Green candidate is Hazel Bowmaker. Being a board member of a local housing association and working for a Carlisle advice service, Hazel has a rich experience of working closely with people and a proven track record of getting things done. By carrying these abilities to the role of local councillor, Hazel will be in a position to make a huge, positive contribution to a vibrant Stanwix Urban community.

The Green Party Manifesto offered the electorate an economic programme that would reduce our national debt without cutting vital public services. This programme is the Green New Deal.

It is a response to the triple crisis that the world now faces:

Community centres play a vital role right at the heart of our society - but in Carlisle, they face uncertain futures due to council cuts. Green Party leader Caroline Lucas MP will this week tell the coalition government there is “no good reason for any cuts in public expenditure during the life of this parliament.”

The 'Green New Deal' to create 1m jobs in the UK - 100,000 in the North West, in agriculture, public transport, renewable energy and waste management - was the Green Party's flagship campaign for the 2010 general election.
