Following the resignation of Conservative councillor John Stevenson, a by-election is to be held in the ward of Stanwix Urban on Thursday, 16th September.
The Green candidate is Hazel Bowmaker. Being a board member of a local housing association and working for a Carlisle advice service, Hazel has a rich experience of working closely with people and a proven track record of getting things done. By carrying these abilities to the role of local councillor, Hazel will be in a position to make a huge, positive contribution to a vibrant Stanwix Urban community.

The Green Party has polled very respectable results in Stanwix Urban since the Carlisle branch was established in 2008 and this election presents something of an opportunity for Carlisle Greens. We'll be campaigning hard for every vote and are confident we can achieve second place.
Past Results
Stanwix Urban - May 2010 (76.1% turnout or 3,649 votes cast)
Conservative 1,935 (54%)
Labour 1,231 (34%)
Green 452 (12%)
The May 2010 result represents a high watermark for the two main parties due to the General Election being held on the same day. However, the results of the 2009 County Council elections which didn't enjoy so large a turnout are below:
Stanwix Urban - June 2009 (44.2% turnout or 2,111 votes cast)
Conservative 1,232 (58%)
Labour 415 (20%)
Green 364 (17%)
BNP 100 (5%)
