Carlisle Greens Defend the Right to Occupy London

Occupy LondonSince 15 October a group of protesters have been holding an occupation in the City of London. This is part of a global movement that is protesting about the way in which the financial system has been acting in the interests of the top 1% of the population.

This week members of the Carlisle Green Party travelled to London to spend time with the protestors and see the occupation at first hand.

Members and supporters of Carlisle & Eden Green Party peacefully demonstrated outside The Cheque Centre on Devonshire Street on Saturday, to draw attention to the extortionate interest rates these people charge in order to profit from peoples' financial misfortune.

Carlisle Greens support Carlisle & District Credit Union

Credit unions provide a not-for-profit and ethical alternative to the multinational banks. Any Green councillors elected in Carlisle would prioritise massively expanding the role that the credit union plays in financing local peoples' lives.

Credit unions are moving away from being a fringe activity but still more often than not, providing loans to people on low incomes.
